Now that my GP2 project with Addax Team has finished, and due to a change of circumstances, my complete Mediterranean lifestyle is regrettably up for sale. Moored in the America’s cup (T dock) marina in Valencia, Spain. (mooring number T36), former home of the America's Cup yacht racing events and the European Grand Prix....
Topaz of Braye. Built at Hasan Tufek in Izmir, Turkey in 1985. The original commissioning long term owner was Sir George Martin, experienced sailor and producer and mentor of The Beatles, and so the materials and build quality was very good. Traditional Gulet, hull construction carvel hard wood (~50mm thick mahogany) planking on very large oak frames. Deck is laid teak on hard wood timber deck beams. Superstructure hard wood timber. Interior all polished hard wood.
Approx 20M long (+bowsprit) x 5.6M wide x 2.3M deep. 28.5 Tonnes.
Approx 7.5 Knots motor or sail.
Re-fit in 1999 with new teak deck
Re-fit (lift out) in 2013 with gearbox rebuilt, some underwater planking replaced, spruce masts and spreaders completely rebuilt, re-rigged, some local topside wood replacement, anti-foul, prop-speed treatment, bilge cleaned and painted, hull and topsides repainted and varnished, and new Bimini aft deck cover. Invoices for over 40K Euros for this refit at Varadero, Valencia.
Perkins 165hp 5.6L turbo diesel, large Kohler generator, inverter, 2000L (approx 1000 Nm range) stainless steel diesel tanks (>1000L in the tank), 7000L stainless steel water tanks, autopilot, radar, GPS, VHF, boat and wind speed (and direction), log depth, and Navtex.
2 x double cabins, 1 x three berth cabin, all en-suite with full showers. Air conditioning in all cabins. Saloon with 2 extra berths, large TV and DVD player, galley/bar with full size fridge, full size freezer, microwave/combination oven, ice maker, music system (for ipod). Sun deck and table to seat six.
Lots of sun-lounging space on deck.
Ketch rigged with heavy duty main and mizzen sails, furling genoa and clip on stay-sail. Lewmar winches, self tailing main.
The tender is a 1970's classic dual purpose 4.2M Fletcher Arrow ski/speed boat, which currently needs tidying up a bit.
A 4m Topper Topaz sports sailing dingy is also included, and can be carried on the coachroof for use when cruising.
Condition is good for a wooden yacht of this age, mostly due to the quality solid original construction and materials, and good maintenance by the three owners (Sir George, a former fighter pilot and myself). There are always things to do on an older wooden boat, and realistically the engine room and engine room electrics could do with a bit of a tidy up as part of the on-going regular maintenance program.
The exclusive mooring costs only 7400 Euros per year (including Spanish IVA) when paying 12 months in advance, plus water, electricity and storage at approx 170 Euros (including IVA) per month for my usage. The mooring is paid until the end of June.
The 1992 LHD Mercedes SL600 (R129) 6.0L V12 is in fantastic condition. An automatic transmission convertible with lift off aluminium hardtop. It has covered 114,000 Km (71,200 m) and has a full Mercedes service history. The car has always been a marina car, originally registered in Marbella, Spain, with registrations in France and the UK.
My Ducati 900SS, which was bought new during my time at Team Lotus has covered less than 2000 miles, and is also in fantastic condition. I converted the bike from the original sports spec to a much more comfortable 'Monster' style. All of the original parts are available.
The Valencia beach is nearby, where there is a promenade with around 30 resturants, including plenty of paella specialists. There are lots of good bars and restaurants around the marina with a very lively nightlife scene in season. Or, peace and tranquility on the T dock, which is also conveniently connected to the lovely Valencia city at the end of the Avenida del Puerto. Something for everyone.
All for a good deal less than a Million......
